Description This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to manage the format and results of golf competitions and tournaments. It focuses on planning and implementing golf events according to golfing guidelines and requirements.

Learning Outcomes and Application This unit applies to those intending to pursue a career as a golf coach at an international level. This includes organising and conducting golf competitions and tournaments, providing in-competition assistance to golfers and conducting post-competition analysis of both performance and strategy.

Element: Establish criteria for participation in a specified competition.
  • Determine eligibility of participants in consultation with the organising body according to the rules and laws of golf.
  • Convey criteria for participation to potential participants.
  • Encourage potential participants to clarify eligibility criteria as required.
       
Element: Plan and implement the format for a specified competition.
  • Identify alternative competition formats.
  • Select a competition format that meets the objectives of the competition, the rules and laws of golf and the requirements of the host facility.
  • Prepare a draw or timesheet and distribute to all relevant stakeholders.
  • Establish draw modification guidelines in consultation with appropriate personnel and distribute to all individuals.
  • Modify the draw if required, document amendments according to the rules and regulations of golf and distribute to all individuals.
  • Implement the modified draw as documented.
  • Identify local rules and make alterations as required in conjunction with the local match committee and communicate appropriately to all individuals.

  • Interpret result notifications and document results according to requirements of the organising body.
  • Record decisions received about disqualifications and penalties, and communicate to participants affected by the decisions, according to the rules and laws of golf.

  • Make subsequent alterations to handicaps where appropriate and notify the organising body and the individual.

records tournament results accurately and in line with the rules and regulations of golf and conveys results and alterations to results to participants accurately and promptly

evaluates and reflects on own work performance to identify ways in which tournaments and competitions can be better managed.

Context of and specific resources for assessment

Assessment must ensure planning and implementation of multiple golf competitions and tournaments to demonstrate competency and consistency of performance.

participants or players competing at appropriate levels

appropriate equipment and resources to plan and implement a golf tournament or competition

the rules and regulations of golf

local rules

information about alternative competition formats.

Method of assessment

A range of assessment methods should be used to assess practical skills and knowledge. The following examples are appropriate for this unit:

observation of performance in planning and implementing golf competitions

oral or written questioning to assess knowledge of relevant rules, regulations of golf impacting on the management of tournaments and competitions

third-party reports from stakeholders detailing performance

documented examples of draws and results.

Holistic assessment with other units relevant to the industry sector, workplace and job role is recommended.
